With a larger diameter shaft so the barbs dont stick out, does this suggest that the point is hafted to a main shaft without a foreshaft ...or to a large foreshaft fitted onto an even larger main shaft?

I think self preservation is key if you wanted to spear something large and live to process it. i probaly would want it to bleed out rather then spear multiple times. Hafted to get through the hide...

I'd have to agree that the point for a thrusting spear would have to be tightly hafted to the handle. once the anumal is stabbed its gonna be jumping around ..possibly trying to either flee or go...
